The Tekfur Palace was part of the Blachernae complex, which was used by the Byzantine emperors starting from the 12th century. The exact date and the person who commissioned the construction of the palace are not known. The structure was referred to as the "Constantine Palace" (Palatium Constantini) by Europeans in the 16th century, and later as the "Porphyrogenitus Palace."
